Thanks for the nice post. I was unaware of the change to the stores application. It is so hard to keep up with the new rules at eBay, its like the IRS! I was considering using the stores in 2010, but not now. Will look around for other auction sites.

Stalinistic pricing policies at eBay might drive business back into the market place. People with stores might start to think... "This sucks... I really need to make my own website and not rely on eBay so much..." Then they need help! It might be an opportunity for a web savy entrepreneur with a plan and some solutions!

Clearly, they weren't thinking...OR...They weren't thinking clearly. It amazes me that they aren't even trying to address the negative PR and long-term effects on their brand.

Marsh may want to consult with Krusty the Clown (from the Simpsons) who, in the episode titled "Lisa's First Word" offered free hamburgers for American victories in certain events in the 1984 Summer Olympics. Of course, Krusty only offered them in events the Russians were sure to win. When the Russians boycotted the games, Krusty faced ruin. He rebounded by vowing to spit in one hamburger in ten. Homer, of course, responded, "I like those odds."

Well said, Jason, and thanks for the comment. The economy is a major factor here and your comparison with the cash-for-clunkers program is apt.

With Kroger having just grabbed the Pacer sponsorship from Marsh, this would be a great time for them to do the coupon and make further inroads into Marsh territory. Will be interesting to see what happens next.

I think marketing and product managers, plus our congress-people, underestimate the financial stress most car-buying/grocery-store-shopping Americans are under and the power that even a small discount can make on a budget. Forget thinking of the Facebook coupon as a social media experiment, it opened the door on a real need and unleashed an amazing opportunity. $10 off a weekly shopping, especially in a shop like Marsh which highlights weekly specials for card-carrying members, shouldn't be suspended over a misunderstanding of social media (if that was the case). This highlights the needs of their market, and a true success in connecting with them. How long until Kroger or Target launches their coupons?

(Similarly congress should keep funding the cash-for-clunkers program. Over 200k vehicles in the 1st week, why suspend that? It's working!)

THANK YOU! I saw the same sign and wondered those exact same words (in fact, I uttered, "YES!" when I ready that part of this blog). I'm glad I'm not the only one who had no idea what PT and OT were. I honestly thought PT was Part-Time and was just stuck on what OT was. Determined it was probably Over-Time, but that didn't make sense and I just stopped caring.

"Physical Therapy" and "Occupational Therapy" are really long, so I can see why they abbreviated it. Doesn't mean it was the right decision though. Thanks for making me not feel like an idiot anymore. =)
